New Tradition: Advent
This Christmas, we began a new tradition using and Advent calendar. We have a little Advent village with little window boxes for each day of December until Christmas Day. Each day the boys will open a door to find little treats inside. While enjoying their treats, Dave (or me if Dave isn't home) will read a Scripture passage relating to Jesus' birth and read from one of David's children's Bibles about the Nativity too. Today, December 1, was our first day. David was so excited to open the little door to find what awaited him inside. Both David and Owen enjoyed their treats and we all enjoyed reading the passage of Scripture together.
We have been wanting to do something like this for a couple of years now, and I found the advent village for a great deal at Costco!!! We are looking for ways to teach David and Owen about Jesus' birth and this is such a fun way to do it! It also builds excitement for Christmas Day. I am looking forward to each day and meditating on the amazing wonder of our Savior's birth as a family!

What fun! A very special tradition indeed! We plan to do the same type of thing this year, but hadn't found the right kind of Advent calendar. Glad to know you found a nice set at Costco. I hope we can still find one like that.
I got the same one a few weeks ago : ) So far, it is the only Christmasy thing we have up . . . the kids love it!
